Markel Tomaras is a gay, mixed-race, filmmaker based in Seattle. He went to Bellevue College and graduated in 2022 with an Associates in Digital Media Arts with certificates in Video Production and Graphic Design. Starting this summer, Markel will being doing a BIPOC filmmaker's internship with a local studio. Markel's goal in his career is to direct horror films with LGBT+ and BIPOC driven stories and cast, he wants to highlight the people in his community who's stories are often overlooked in film. Markel is also a photographer alongside being a filmmaker. He has worked with a few local drag performers on a photoshoot as well as some video content and has some drag video projects in the works. Markel is very inspired by directors like Wes Craven, Steven Spielberg, John Carpenter, Ari Aster and Jordan Peele. His dream project is to create a new horror icon/ IP who is up to par with classic icons like Chucky, Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, etc. His “favorite scary movie” is Scream (1996), what’s yours?
